The Power of the Small: Why Simple Joys are the Secret to Big Change

A small green plant emerging from the soil, representing a gentle start to life change and holistic wellness for women.

Good morning!

Have you ever woken up after a night of restless, broken sleep, feeling like you’re already behind before your feet have even hit the floor?

You know the feeling. Your mind is already humming... and while you know you probably need to make some changes in your life, the thought of a giant transformation feels like trying to climb a mountain in thongs! So, you stay stuck in the familiar grey space, just trying to get through the day. Here is a little secret I’ve learned though: The "Big Change" doesn't start with a giant leap. It starts with a few minutes of reclaiming your space and creating some joy.

The Magic of the "Micro-Shift"

When we are living our 'groundhog day'  and it feels awful, our nervous system is kind of frozen on high alert and is scared of doing things differently because 'better the devil you know'is on high alert. Anything "big" or "new" feels like a threat to our already depleted energy. But a tiny, simple joy? That can sneak right past the alarm.Think about the last time you:Curated a music playlist that makes you feel like you again (and danced like a crazy person while preparing dinner).Sat in the grass for ten minutes, just watching the way the Autumn light hits the trees.Had a heart-opening laugh with a friend who truly sees you.In those moments, your whole spirit shifts. Your breath deepens without you even trying. Your chest softens and you might find yourself smiling. You aren't "fixing" your life in those few minutes, but you are reminding your body what safety feels like... what living feels like. And by creating safety and rest, true change can begin.

Stop Dismissing the "Simple"

We’ve been conditioned to believe that if it’s simple, it’s not significant. But simple is sustainable... and it's an important first step. Getting out in nature for a short walk or choosing one meal that feels like a gift to your body sends a message to your overall wellbeing: I am worth looking after. Those small hits of joy are like a soothing balm for a frayed life. They create a tiny bit of spaciousness - and in that space, your natural intelligence and clarity start to return.

A Place to Begin

When I was in that same overwhelmed space and everything felt like "a lot," I had to find a way to pull on just one small thread at a time. I couldn't do a massive program; I just needed a gentle way to find my feet again. This is why I’m so passionate about starting with the basics - things like The Inner Thread, which is a simple 3-day resource I’ve shared with many women who felt exactly like you do right now. It focuses on just 15 minutes a day of finding moments of purpose, joy, and peace. It’s a great place to begin because it proves to your nervous system that you can feel better without it having to be "hard work."When we stop striving and start noticing the small, simple joys that are already here, we stop surviving our lives and start actually living them.

A Moment for You

Before you go about your day, I have a small suggestion for you.Don't think about next month or even next week. What is one simple joy you can claim for yourself today? Maybe it's putting on your favourite track while you make a cuppa, or stepping outside to breathe the fresh air for two minutes.Claim it. It’s not "unproductive" - it’s essential. And if you feel ready for a little more support, you’re so welcome to join me for a reset whenever you're ready. You can click here to find out more.

With warmth and simple joys,
